Yes they can. They do not need a diagnosis for Conductive Education to be beneficial. Any child who has a delay in motor development would benefit.

It is most beneficial to have weekely sessions, lasting approximately 1 hour, in order that skills can be learnt, practised and become automatic. These will be offered in a 6 or 12 week block, and reviewed regularly to ensure progress is being made and goals are realistic and relevant.

We employ a holistic approach, drawing on strategies from Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Teaching and Sensory Integration. We aim to enhance the services you already access, but the key difference is we use an educational approach rather than a purely therapy approach, teaching people strategies to overcome their challenges, and how to transfer learning across different situations and settings.

Coming to terms with your child's diagnosis or noticing your child may not be hitting their developmental milestones can throw up huge emotions, and it can be difficult to know where to turn for help and advice. At Independent Steps, we can help you to understand what your child's diagnosis may mean for their future, and help you discover their potential in all areas of development. We believe that everybody can learn new skills, in spite of their starting point. Disability does not mean 'inability'.

Whilst Conductive Education works best with children who have physical and communication challenges, some of the strategies we use can be very beneficial to those who do not have a physical challenge. We would be happy to have a chat to see if we can help, and signpost you to other more appropriate services if necessary.

Conductive Education works very well as an early intervention programme, therefore we can start seeing babies from the age of 6 months. It is a lifelong learning programme, and we can see people with neurological movement disorders through preschool, school and even into adulthood.
